SYNOPSIS

In the tumultuous Montevideo of 1972, while the country collapses unforgivably towards the abyss of dictatorship, DIEGO and LEONARDO, two screenwriters of a renowned comedy TV show struggle to preserve their integrity as they are pressured by their superiors to lower the tone of their mordant political satires and to avoid offending senior military commanders who are seizing control of the country. At the same time, from the side of the oppressors, ROJAS, a lieutenant of the army who has been pressured to torture militants or sympathizers of the urban guerrilla of the Tupamaros, exorcizes his demons with SUSANA, a prostitute in whom he finds a sort of emotional comfort for his strong feeling of guilt. Little by little, the confluent lives of the screenwriters and of the lieutenant are deeply affected by the yoke of the dictatorship that starts looming over them, and on side and on the other they struggle to find a way out, a decent exit that allows them to look at themselves in the mirror.
